Ask me for help…

Okay, I know I have that look on my face that says “hi, I’m friendly and helpful…if you are having a problem talk to me!” I get it from my mother, who dad says everyone is an “old friend she’s just meet,” but even this is a new one for me.
I’m sitting in my favorite chill spot, the Hawk’s Nest in the Kansas Union. They’ve got everything; good Milton’s coffee (a local coffee shop recently seen in the NYTimes) and a really great wifi connection. Everything a young blogger needs. :)
While surfing a fellow student approached me with a questions about the wifi. He was one of our many foreign students here at KU, and his English was a little choppy, however we figured out that he had all the necessary equipment for logging onto the net. I explained the steps to him, and he returned to his windows laptop (I’m a hardcore mac-head by the way), and began to log-in. About 3 mintues later I catch his eye to see if everything is still working, and I get a depressed, no. So being the nice guy I am I hop up and run over to his computer. He lets me sit down to take a look at what the problem is…only all of his menus were in Mandarin….at least I think they were in Mandarin. Actually now that I think about it, it could have been any symbols based langauge…damn I live a sheltered life. I directed him to tech support in the Union and hopefully they can help. I felt bad that even some of the most universal languages, technolgy, can be difficult when in a different culture.
Anyway, this just reminded me how much I enjoy and relish the college experience. It has given me the opportunity to meet and interact with a number of people that I would have never previously been exposed too. This, in addtion to many other things has been one of the most rewarding aspect of my college career.
