Its blog!

Its big, its heavy, its wood!
Not much happening here. I can honestly say I have not done a damn thing in 2 days. I’ve basically been catching up on “me time” (i.e. video games, music, internet), which has been nice.
The girlfriend and I enjoyed dinner and a movie last night. Our spring break schedules in no way, shape or form match up, so we had a date night before we parted our separate ways for almost a week. Bummer. We had a wonderful meal at a great local Italian (Daddy are you Italian?) restaurant , followed by coffee at Milton’s, a Borders look around, and All the Pretty Horses . Yes, I am just that wonderful of a boyfriend…
While I was less than thrilled by the girlfriend’s choice in terms of movies, I was pleasantly surprised by the flick. I love Damon in Good Will Hunting and Cruz is the perfect woman in Vanilla Sky , but I had heard nothing but bad things about Billy Bob’s masterpiece. I can honestly say the film deserves a B, and an A for effort in terms of not conforming to Hollywood conventions. Plus the picture looks gorgeous.
While at Borders I picked up another Miles Davis CD, Miles in Berlin . Picking up the re-release of “Kind of Blue” the other day (more on that soon) reminded me how much I really dig the guy, so I decided to pick another album only this time by the “Second Great Quintet.” This was Miles’ second great band including Wayne Shorter on sax, and what has been dubbed the best rhythm section in Jazz history; Ron Carter on bass, Herbie Hancock (yes, that one!) on piano, and Tony Williams on drums. Let’s just say I’m listening to it right now on the Airport Express and really diggin’ it. Once again, I love acoustic jazz and truly miss all the great listening experiences that being a music major afforded.
Okay, I’ve been putting this off for a couple of days but I feel I should make my opinion known about the Jayhawks’ loss in the first round of the NCAA tournament. All I can say is that my favorite player, Michael Lee, proved once again that he has more heart than any starter on that team, however one man could not affect the lack of effort of an entire team. It is a sad day in Mudville, but Michael Lee definitely came to bat. This loss ends my college b-ball viewing career as a student, and while it is a drag, I’ve been able to watch some pretty cool games over the years (albeit from my living room…screw standing in line for tickets…we’ve got HD!). Needless to say, it has been fun being a student and a b-ball fan for the past three years. Discussing pointless team trivia is one of the many things I’m going to miss as I move on in life.
Anyway, hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of spring. Be prepared for a few more posts, including a review of the new “dual disc” format Harper and I stumbled upon. I’m heading to Hutch later in the week to visit the family, so expect some fun pictures from the hometown.
until next time faithful readers…courage.
(and yes this post is link happy…but I’m bored)
