It's over….

May 13th, 2005 | Filed under Life

So, yesterday was for all intents and purposes my last day of college…

weird.

I mean, I still have to finish a paper for monday, and take a final wednesday night before star wars (which I’m starting to get really pumped for) and then I’m done. Kind of scary, huh?

While I do have some summer work lined up, nothing like a real job has surfaced. Sure, it is kind of bummer to be between lives (the real world and the college world) but I think I’m going to make the most of it and take a little time and chill out…figure out what approach I want to take towards my eventual global domination.

The problem is that my interests and abilities (or lack there of) are too broad. Check the list as follows:

I could go advertising…start working on a book and attempt to make it as copywriter. Not the worst idea ever, but not exactly my dream job,

Apply for the KTWU camera man position and work in public broadcasting for a while,

Start interning in KC and work my way up the corperate video production ranks,

Or,

Stay at Edge part-time, work Campus Rep stuff when I can and continue to do side projects and work on some short films.

Even though this may be the current plan, I am by no means thrilled by it. I’m still trying to figure out how I want to approach the real world. I’m not saying that I’m scared of working and the like, shit, I’ve been working “part-time” since I was about 8…and I have no problem getting up everyday and busting my ass….but I need to be inspired by it. Now, I know that is asking a lot, but in my mind it isn’t that farfetched. Last summer I worked for Edge and went to work everyday pumped about solving our green-screen problems. We essentially did an entire CD program of CG shots by spending about 600 bucks. Not bad if ask me, and it was fun and challenging.

I think that is what I need…something that forces me to come up with unique, innovative and cheap solutions. When I think back to all of my success in the video/graphics world they have always been in line with doing something that other people didn’t really think possible.

Salthawk News, our High School news station that Zach, Jason and I worked on, was a place that had 15 year-old equipment that we turned around and created award winning work. 3 Filter Productions, again the video production company Zach, Jason and I created to make some side projects. Everything we did there was with some home Macs and cheap cameras. Backseat, a short film Harper, Zach, Rumback and I did was the only film in the competition that was completely story-dialogue driven…nobody else had the guts to do that and we were rewarded for doing so. Finally Edge, here is a place that wants the best for less…and it has been a blast doing so.

I don’t know, I guess I’m answering my own questions, but I think I need to be involved in small companies that need some kid to show them how to do things on the cheap…while still cranking out high quality shit….anyone know of one??? :)

until next time my peoples…courage.

P.S. Here is a song to exemplify the end…

The End

P.P.S. I wanted to use the Squirrel Nut Zippers song “It’s Over” (hence the title of the post) but iTunes doesn’t have it. Later!
