Steve & Me

Spending my Sunday afternoon/evening in one our the great computer labs here on on the lovely campus of the University of Kansas.
I offered my services to the parents to make a photo slideshow for my little brother’s (steve) graduation party. I figured it wouldn’t be a big deal to scan a couple of pics of the bro, however the project exploded!
My brother ended up scheduling his reception with a couple of friends, creating a super-joint-party of fun. So…being the great son that I am I told mom I would scan photos for the other two families as well. Not a big deal…but I’ve been at it for over an hour :)
Oh well, it allowed me to check out a few choice photos of me and my brother. Like the one at the right for example. It is good to know that there was a time when life was simple and it was just my family and me…when steve and I lived without a care in the world.
Now, he is graduating high school the day after I graduate college. How about that for insane-earth-shattering-mom-loving events. Needless to say it should be a great weekend for food family and fun, but it does make me long for the days when we would hang out and play roller-hockey in the drive way, or madden 64 all afternoon. I guess we’ve grown up a bit. I’ve got the girlfriend, he has a little lady he has been a-courtin’, we both work…and he’ll be starting college in the fall while I have the real world starring me down.
I guess I’m ramblin’ here, but as I sit in a computer lab that I’ve been frequenting since the days before wifi, while I watch the sun set on the library it makes me feel a little nostalgic for days gone by.
For crying out loud, Gordo, Harper and I laughed for 15 minutes about our old fish “Steve and Steve” (no relation to the brother, but 2 computer company founders…:) and their untimely deaths. I think we are longing for a little bit of yesterday as so many things begin to change. Most people will tell you that the shift from high school to college is the hardest switch of your life…but I don’t think so.
It is looking like the actual switch into operating in the real world is going to be my next great adventure…and if it is anything like the past, my past, I’m more than ready.
