I've had some time to think

June 6th, 2005 | Filed under Technology

Here is my conclusion on the new Apple-switch-to-Intel chips deal.

This is the beginning of the next wave of computers. When hardware and software don’t matter and everyone is able to just compute. Think about it.

I just got done listening to an interview that stated that Apple is not going to turn off Windows support on their new machines. That means I could buy a new Mac with OSX on it, as well as purchase a copy of Windows XP (or Longhorn if it ever ship) and install that on the machine as well. What stops me from installing Linux as well??? That way I could run any game or piece of software all on one machine!!!

I would assume Gordo’s probably pumped about this bit of news. Very soon he’ll be able to purchase a Mac and use OSX for all his web surfing, photos, videos, music and even word processing and then with a keystroke switch over to Windows to accomplish some “work” related stuff.

Just an idea and I could be wrong…but it looks interesting.

I’m still a little weirded out about Apple jumping ship like this, but this could be the most important move Apple has made in last 20 years.

sidenote: For those of you that are asking, no, you will not be able to install Mac OSX on your Dell, HP or Sony machine (legally at least…we’ll have to watch and see)
