iPod lives…again

So my iPod died again last week. I decided not to blog about because it was just to frustrating. I knew exactly what I needed to do to get it working again…however I knew it would take around an hour of uninterrupted computer time. Considering the girlfriend’s iBook is on the fritz (Apple is fixing it for free…how lovely of them) computer time during the week has been at a premium. So, all my plans for today feel through giving me an uninterrupted 2 hours to work on the iPod and read Wired while the iPod Updater did its thing.
Being completely without a mass storage device (ala my iPod) has been a real drag considering I love to bring files, podcasts, audiobooks and all other kinds of large files to and from work/home. Our network at work sucks since we are running a slow DSL connection (we could have had a T-1 but the management didn’t understand how that would help our productivity), so moving podcasts and audiobooks via my iPod and a lovely program named iPodRip to work is my only option.
So, I’ve been without audio content at work (until this week when the girlfriend let me borrow her iPodMini) and it has been killing me considering I spend a large part of my day chroma keying/compositing video which can be incredibly tedious and mind numbing. I hadn’t realized how much I really missed the iPod until some of the people at work were talking about getting shuffles as flash drives to move files back forth. All of sudden I got supper jealous and started thinking of reason to justify my needing to move megabytes of data with a shuffle, when everything I work on at the office is closer to 10s of gigabytes. Stupid matt.
So, basically I’ve got the iPod back and spent the afternoon cleaning the house while listening to Adam Curry and Dave Winer and remembering how much I love podcasts. I love my iPod. I know that’s what every other blog and facebook group says, but it is a product (just like my Mac) that has completely become something that I enjoy using on a daily basis.
