Saturday mornings are starting to become a ritual ’round here. Get up. Get a cup of coffee (either from Milton’s or at home) and head down to an auction at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The girlfriend has kind of knack for finding the “good junk” in the middle of the “bad junk.” Considering half of my apartment is furnished as such I’m not really one to complain, however this mornings traditional jaunt to east Lawrence provided nothing but the bad-ass betamax deck as seen at right, and a great RCA Victor radio (not working of course). Needless to say neither was worth waiting around all morning to haggle over, so we left.
Not ones to be easily defeated, we headed downtown to grab more coffee (what? Milton’s is right there) and peruse various local shops in search of a b-day gift for the girlfriend’s little sister, and as well as more “good junk.” Once again we came up short, but we did manage to spend some quality time in local thrift stores and The Toy Store, Lawrence’s fantastic local toy shop. While we didn’t walk away with any mystical treasures this morning, the girlfriend did attempt to man-handle one of the displays in the The Toy Store…what, she’d already had 3 cups of coffee by then. I love Lawrence on a Saturday morning….so much potential for a day even is all you end up doing is editing some video and watching way to much West Wing.
