Political Rant

Sorry for the second post in one day, but I’ve been on kind of blogging spurt as of late. I’ve been listening to a couple of podcasts of press conferences (Energy Legislation in the House Dems Podcast) by our nations congress-people (is that a word?). I know it may sound sad, but The West Wing has actually reinvigorated my interest in national politics. As I sit at work listening to these speeches/conferences while editing/compositing video I am dumbstruck by how cliche and rediculous these political leaders are. Can our nations leaders not afford a competent speech writer? They sould like idiots! Everytime one steps up to the microphone they make sure to praise the people they are making the press conferences with…who cares!?! They know you appreciate them or you wouldn’t be working together!!!! Comments like the following really irritate me.
“Thank you Senator Kerry for your leadership on so many issues, in particular the issue of high energy costs that are impact on families, in your state, and across America.”
I think what these people are working for, in terms of lower heating costs for the impovrished, and in Herseth’s point, the rural, of this country is a fantastic idea. I’m a little biased as the majority of my family has it’s roots in rural South Dakota, so I have a certain soft spot for those people, but that doesn’t mean that they deserve someone without the ability to captivate an audience representing them. If that wasn’t enough check this one by the a certain Senator from New York.
“Well, I want to thank Senator Kerry for his leadership on this issue, and its obvious that you see before you, a number of, um, Senators and members of Congress for, ah, northern states, but we’ve been joined by…”
I may be leaning towards voting for a Democratic canidate in the up coming elections but there is no way I’m going to vote for Mrs. Clinton. It has nothing to do with her husband either, he spoke at KU two years ago and I thought he was a great speaker, an above average president and a moral idiot. I just don’t think she really has anything to offer the country.
I just wish this country could return to a time when its leaders actually possed something…it was called leadership.
p.s. Why did the DNC elect Kerry to be their canidate? I listened to him on this podcast as well, and he sounds like a lost lummox….why is it that in this country we can never have intelligent canidates that sound like someone who you would like to have lead you? I like good leaders, and I’ll follow good leaders, not because I’m some kind of lemming, but because doing what is right feels good…and having a plan to achieve that is something this country has been lacking for a quite some time.
