The Big Red Fez

Seth Godin is a marketing genius. Just about every blog I read dealing with marketing in the current internet age points to Seth for reference or even guidance. I’ve been reading his blog for around 6 months now and I have fallen in love with the simplicity at which he approaches considerably complex marketing problems. So, when I was checking out the “new books” section of the Lawrence Public Library I was surpised to see a book by Seth about none other than…websites.

The basic premise of the book is that most website do not have what Godin calls “the banana” in plain view for the viewer. What is “the banana” Matt? Well…think of this way. It is hard to get anyone to go to your website, whether you are a corperation or not, so do not make it difficult for your viewer to do things. These include but are not limited to; signing up for newsletters; purchasing products (Godin loves Amazon.com);

The books is a very quick read an highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve upon the way their website works and how consumers/viewers navigate the site. Lord knows I still have a lot to learn.
