There are few things in life that cannot be fixed by an evening of & via my Twitter feed.

bitTorrent

November 12th, 2005 | Filed under Marketing

I love using bitTorrent as a means of downloading television shows that are freely broadcast over the “public” FCC licencsed air waves. In my mind, any show that is shown on the big 3 (ABC, CBS or NBC), Fox or the WB should be fair game for trading online due to the fact that they are freely distrubted via local television stations. As amazing as this might seem these networks offset the costs of producing the shows by selling air time to advertisers and thus forcing you to watch them. Obviously Tivo and other DVRs change this but for the purposes of this arguement they are not included. 99% of bitTorrent content is traded online without commercials, whereas DVRs still record the commercials they just allow you speed through them.

As I was saying above the only legal problem to bitTorrent, in my mind, is the absense of commercials. Of course all of the elite hackers (notice the use of non-haxor speak) that originally record the copies of the televsion shows edit out the commercials in the shows and thus cause them to enter in the merky domain of piracy. Considering that the creators of bitTorrent recently recieved 8.75 Million in venture capital, maybe they are working on a solution to solve the piracy problem.

If everyone would just allow the networks to insert the commericals that actually pay for the content that we are all consuming the world would continue to fuction for both Madison Avenue, the Networks and viewers who are sick of paying for cable to get a decent broadcast signal. Then the only problem would be when your cable/broadband company caps your bandwidth at 6 gigs every month.

So bitTorrent community. if you are listening, leave the commercials in, I don’t want to get sued. Beside I kind of like commercials when they are done well.
