Frou Frou

December 14th, 2005 | Filed under Reviews

My love of music primarly stems from the actual creative love of the production of sound. This album is one of the rare instances when I can completely immerse myself in a form of music that is entirely un-acoustic. I was originally turned on to Frou Frou via the great soundtrack that is the Garden State Soundtrack. While I really enjoyed the song Let Go that was used in the closing of the film, it didn’t make me want to run out assimilate everything the
woman had ever sung.

Enter Harper a couple of months later. We were enjoying one of our patented drive-around-and-listen-to-good-tunes drives when another song from Details showed up on the iPod. Needless to say I picked up the rest of the album and quickly began to ingest all of the wonderful melodies and atmospheres that are created in the context of what seems to be simple love songs. As I said before, I’m not really one for electronically created music, but I can’t get songs like Hear Me Out and Maddening Shroud out of my head for the life of me.

I’m not really sure what else to say about this wonderful album other than that your ears and inner-sense of funk (did I mention the beats were funky) will definetly thank you.
