We went shopping today. Not just any shopping, but Christmas shopping. Considering I hadn’t even started…today was a bit of a whirlwind. All of the typical complaints about the commercialism of an ancient religious holiday apply, however the girlfriend and I had a good time combing the aisles of many a fine establishment in Lawrence. Keeping in mind the fact that we hit up everything, from the super local to the uber-corperate, we ran the full gambit of consumerism.
Traditionally, I tend to get pissed off pretty easily while shopping, much to the chagrin of the girlfriend, there is always one thing that manages to get me through the holiday extravaganza…Christmas music. And not just any super-cheesy-holiday-squalor like Mary Did You Know? (because yes, she does know…an angel told her)…I love the good stuff.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, and yes I do deplore most everything that is played on the in-store stereos, but there is one album that gets me through: A Charlie Brown Christmas by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. For some reason the tunes found within speak to me the way no other holiday music can. Nothing, short of the Ellington Nutcracker, comes close to getting me amped about the holidays and thankfully even bad stores seem to play it on their speakers.
Even though I might have been dreading today, it turned out pretty well as I got 75 percent of my shopping done and saw a couple of old friends, which is always great. I’ll try to drop in with more frequent posts, but things around here will hopefully getting a lot more busy. More news to come soon.
Until next time…courage.

It was cool running into you. I’m going to try to make it to the apple-nerd-get-together, as I could use some mac friends in Lawrence… or just friends in general.
My wife’s been singing that Mary song at me all week just cause she know’s I hate it.
