Observations

January 8th, 2006 | Filed under Rant

Observations from an average saturday with the girlfriend and me:

1. Live Auctions are an amazing experience. I suggest everyone check out at least one in order to comprehend how much someone else’s old junk can mean to another person. Find one in your neck of the woods here.

2. iPod accessories are officially in every store including: borders, the gap, banana republic and j. crew. Unfortunately Victoria’s Secret was a no go. While I didn’t step foot in the store (as much as I love what they sell I can’t be the creeping guy walking around inside) the girlfriend checked it out for me and didn’t see any. Although I wouldn’t doubt it if they made a pair of women’s unmentionables with a pocket for the nano.

3. Play more good music at your store. We stopped into banana republic, fine store…blah, blah, blah but for 5 minutes it provided the best shopping experience of the day for me. The reason? Good music. I realize music is subjective, but they were playing some great hard-bop style jazz, which meant the girlfriend could have continued shopping in there for the rest of day…or least until the good music stopped.

4. Also, the iPod has officially reached market saturation in my mind. Don’t get me wrong, I love mine, the girlfriend loves her mini, but people really do wear them around like a badge that proclaims “I’m cool!” Examples? We saw two kids skateboarding with their iPod earbuds in (ha ha you’re mainstream), one kid walking into the movie theatre with his headphones in while talking to his friends, a guy shopping around the mall, and a gentleman looking around borders with his shuffle on. Actually, I’m okay with the dude in borders because I’ll take mine to the grocery store in the evenings when I know no is there, but does he have to wear the lanyard?

5. I love families taking the whole clan to the movie theatre to catch a flick, but don’t bring your kids to what you know will be a frightening and long movie. Also, don’t force those same children to sit through the film when they starting crying and developing an unhealthy fear of zoos (we saw kong which was good) Additionally, don’t hold conversations throughout the film and then get up to take a smoke break in the middle of the film and come back smelling like smoke. Just a thought.

Needless to say sometimes I really hate JoCo.

Nice action link. I haven’t been to one in too long.

Couldn’t agree more with #3. I am seriously frightened every time I get near a Hollister, partly because of their crazy expensiveness, but mostly because their glam-rock is turned up so loud I can’t think. Thankfully, I have only had to enter into that dark, evil den twice.

Best music I’ve found: Arizona Trading Co.

And for #5, we saw a 5-7 year old brought with his parents to kill bill. Yeah, he’ll probably have some issues to deal with later on in life.
