While it seems like everything that can be said about the team up of Levitt and Dubner has been said, however I just wanted to give the book a couple of lines of thought from my perspective. The authors repeatedly mention that the book has no underlying theme other than the pursuit of tackling problems from interesting angles. It shows the reader that in order to truly understand given ideas such as crime, poverty, education, drugs, parenting and even realty, they must step back, forget the assumptions of everyday life and really look at the reality of a given situation.
While the book probably won’t change your life, it does give amazing insight into how incredibly inaccurate “conventional wisdom” can be and gives you the tools to dissect a given belief. Also, the book is a really fun read with interesting facts like how every adult male is issued an assault rifle in Switzerland as a part of their militia. Interesting fact, no? Trust me, read it. Also the authors are blogging here as well.
