Center of Google Earth

January 28th, 2006 | Filed under Lawrence

It has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt…according the Windows (eh) version of Google Earth the Station House (pics here and here) is within 200 yards of the center of the universe!!!

Apparently the programmer who originally created Google Earth is a KU grad and I guess lived in Meadowbrook (home of the station house). As a shout-out to his alma mater he made the default zoom location (if you zoom in without moving the center point) the intersection of 15th (bob billings parkway) and Crestline. Unfortunately the Mac version does not share this theory about the center of the universe as it zooms in on some random local in eastern kansas. Oh well, its still hilarious.

Check these two article in both the lovely LJWorld and the severly lacking Kansan.
