There are few things in life that cannot be fixed by an evening of & via my Twitter feed.

Oh Missouri…you sure are silly.

Every once in a while I look at the national media coverage of Kansas and I think to myself that it is pretty embarassing to live in such a state. While we have many amazing attributes and I’ve absolutely loved growing up and going to school here, I do feel a little ashamed at times.

However, I would hate to live in Missouri right now. Check out this quote from KMOV.com:

Missouri legislators in Jefferson City considered a bill that would name Christianity the state’s official “majority” religion. The resolution would recognize “a Christian god,” and it would not protect minority religions, but “protect the majority’s right to express their religious beliefs.

Apparently in Missouri law makers have decided that the Constitution really isn’t that big of deal since it specifically states:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . . .”

More importantly they’ve come to realize that what the state really needs is legislation to protect the majority. Has the elected official who authored this gem ever heard of Mill or de Tocquevill…does the tyranny of the majority ring a bell for anyone?? Anyway, here’s my favorite part of the article:

The resolution also recognizes that, “a greater power exists,” and only Christianity receives what the resolution calls, “justified recognition.”

I’m glad to hear that the State of Missouri will be considering whether or not to acknowledge an official higher power and that a Christian God is the only one that deservers “justified recognition.”

Wow. Who looks silly now?
