Blogroll deletion

So, I deleted someone from my list of links on the right tonight, as well as from my RSS reader for checking daily updates. Sure, I’ve erased links to sites that no longer exist or friends who aren’t blogging anymore, but I’ve never actually deleted a link because I didn’t agree with a person’s politics.
I guess the main reason I did it is because I didn’t want people to think that this person’s world view was being endorsed by yours-truly. Linking someone from the sidebar is a very serious matter, at least to me, in that the site is given my personal seal of approval. A link on the right says this person has something that I think you’ll find interesting to say, and that I tend to agree with them. I’m not saying that I don’t have room for differing view points, and I generally don’t block out people just because they disagree with me…but this individual posted something out of fear and ignorance and I for one cannot tolerate that.
Blogging is such an interesting medium, in that it gives us all a place to voice our opinions. However, it is also a reflection of who we are and what we care about. While this may all sound incredibly trivial and self-indulgent, it really bums out that people possess viewpoints such as the one in question…I’d like to think that everyone could be tolerant of other people and at least a little bit open minded. Unfortunately, that is never as true as I’d like for it to be.
Until next time…courage.
