Ramblings from a lazy Weekend

March 26th, 2006 | Filed under Blog, Life, Politics, Rant, Reviews

Here a bunch of things that have been on my mind this weekend, but wouldn’t coalesce into individual coherent thoughts.

I caught V for Vendetta, which was a very interesting flick. I really liked the idea, the fact that it opens some American’s eyes to the fact that giving up our civil liberties is very slippery slope…but I don’t know how much I like the idea of the violence, as well as blowing up buildings to make a point…I guess I’m still a little sensitive to message that sends. Definitely worth seeing though.

Now that I have tv in the apartment again, the girlfriend and I sat down to watch the West Wing. It sure is weird watching the show without the benefit of a pause button or in rapid succession as we have always watched the show on DVD. I think a mac based pvr is going to be in the works for this summer.

My public library is now offering a downloadable audiobook rental service. To bad no cares as it doesn’t work with Macs, iTunes or iPods. What a waste of time and money.

500,000 people turned out in LA this weekend to take part in a march to oppose legislation that would make entering this country as an illegal immigrant a felony. Somehow, even the fact that this bill has come up at all makes me feel ashamed as I can’t believe how hypocritical it is. This is America right? Give us your tired, and poor just doesn’t really seem that believable anymore. Maybe we should just take the whole statue down? Here is an except from CNN about what the provisions the bill contains.

The demonstrators oppose legislation passed by the U.S. House that would make it a felony to be in the U.S. illegally. It also would impose new penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants, require churches to check the legal status of parishioners before helping them and erect fences along one-third of the U.S.-Mexican border. -Cnn.com

I especially like the idea of requiring “churches to check the legal status of parishioners before helping them.” I don’t know about your faith or denomination, but that certainly won’t fly in the catholic church.

Oh, and one last thing. ‘Marriage Is for White People,’ according Joy Jones of the washington post. Via: Instapundit

I  your girlfriend! (in a platonic way, of course!) I’m going to miss the West Wing. Maybe Allison Janney will become a regular on Weeds!
