Hell Froze Over (again)

April 5th, 2006 | Filed under Apple, Technology

For all of you Windows peoples (I know you’re out there, because you represent half of the visitors to the site) Apple has released the beta of what it calls boot camp. What this software allows you to do is install Windows XP on your Intel based mac and dual boot into either the Mac or Windows. Why is this cool? Well, now you can switch to a Mac and have no worries about playing the games you want, or being able to access the companies proprietary Windows software/network from your new mac. You can use the mac for everything else and clean up your current life of spyware and viruses.

Looks like we’ll have something new to talk about at the Lawrence Apple Users Group meeting tonight.

p.s. Yes I know there has been a hack-around to do this for a bit, but I think the official support of Apple makes the dual-booting Mac a whole new ball-game. Also, Apple has this great quote on the sidebar of the page warning Mac users about Windows.

Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC. That means it’ll be subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world. So be sure to keep it updated with the latest Microsoft Windows security fixes.

Again, this is definitely interesting stuff…I can’t wait for a smaller Macbook Pro to come out (I’m a 12″laptop kind of guy).

Update: Well, it looks like someone cracked the XP virtualization problem. We live in interesting times. Now where is my 12″ Macbook Pro?

Update 2:Windows: The New Classic” by Jon Gruber. This news is still freaking me out.
