Vonnegut’s still got it.

Qoute of the day, courtesy of Kurt Vonnegut.
“What a mistake we are. We’ve mortally wounded this sweet, life supporting planet, the only one in the whole milky way, with a century of transportation whoopee. Our government is conducting a war against drugs is it? Let them go after petroleum. Take about a destructive high. You put some of this stuff in your car and you can go a hundred miles an hour, run over the neighbors dog and tear the atmosphere to smithereens. Heh, as long as we’re stuck with being homo-sapiens, why mess around? Lets reck the whole joint. Anybody got an atomic bomb?”
“Who doesn’t have an atomic bomb these days! But I have to say this in defense of human kind. In no matter what era in history, including the garden of eden, everybody just got here. And except for the garden of eden, there were already all these games going on, that could make you act crazy. Even if you weren’t crazy to begin with. Some of the crazy making games going on today are love and hate, liberalism and conservatism, automobiles and credit cards. Golf! And girls basketball.” -Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without a Country
Considering this book was published last fall, I can’t help but notice how spot on it is in regards to gas jumping 15 cents this week, and Iran showing off its nuclear enrichment capabilities the other day. Scary stuff, but Vonnegut has always been able to put things in perspective for me. While this is the first book of his that I have read in over 6 years, (I read just about everything he ever published while I was in high school) it still connects to me on some whacked-out-guilty level.
Disclaimer: While I grew up reading Vonnegut, I might not completely agree with everything he is quoted with saying in this post. However, it sure makes me laugh. Until next time…courage.

You and Teressa should go see “Thank You For Smoking!” It is at Liberty Hall, and it is terrific! P.S. the playlist you posted a couple of weeks ago–I am listening to it now, and it just dawned on me that most of the vocalists are male. Do you prefer male vocalists?

Hey thanks for the last comment. For the most part yeah, I prefer male vocalists due to the fact that I generally listen to singer/songwriters and I feel that I can relate to those musicians and their songs better. However, I do have some feminine vocalists/musicians heroines including Martina Sorbara, Frou Frou, Aimee Mann, Ani DiFranco, Jill Sobule, Billie Holiday and a host of others.
