I hate paperwork.

In the past week my life has been nothing but paperwork. I had to fill my new insurance forms for work, fill out our 401k paperwork as well as file my taxes. Good news though, I just checked intuit.com and my taxes are in and approved. And my refund should be here by april 28th. Huge sigh of relief there as I just noticed that I’m out of check blanks, so even if I wanted to mail my taxes in late tonight it would be impossible to do so. Unless of course I stuffed an envelope full of cash. That would be kind of fun…
Even though I’m what you could call a democrat, I hate the process of paying taxes. It is not so much that I mind paying into the government for services rendered, it is more that I hate the stress, and am afraid of the process and the consequences for screwing up. Basically, the IRS scares me.
Oh and the Lawrence Post office won’t be staying open late, as they traditionally do on tax day. Normally Steve Mason and the Alferd Packer Memorial String Band host a bluegrass jam in the lobby up until midnight, allowing residence to postmark there tax return on time. Check out the article about this unique Lawrence tradition. A bunch of friends and I went a couple years back and it was a blast, complete with folk music and good food. Kind of a celebration of getting your taxes in.
p.s. I’m in no way, shape or form upset with my employer for giving me insurance and a 401k, I just hate writing down my social security number in 27 different places.
