My XBOX is listening in.

Gordo and I were having a discussion online last night as to the merit of a rating feature on XBOX live that would allow to you rate someone as an asshole. You can already leave feedback if someone cheats or is racist or hateful, but there is no feedback for just being obnoxious. Apparently, the XBOX 360 team has solved this problem with a reputation system. Here is a quote from Steven Frank, one of the owners of Panic Software, regarding such a system.

It has a “reputation” system that lets you moderate down obnoxious jerks, and moderate up fair, friendly competitors. It even divides the online experience into 4 neatly segregated skill sections, from “casual” to “complete assclown”. -Steven Frank

At least that is encouraging for the unforeseen future when I’ll be able to purchase a 400 dollar toy. I’m sure Halo 3 will force me to open up my wallet again anyway, but hopefully the price will have dropped a bit by then. :)
