Here is a quote from the President in repose to the foiled terrorist plot this morning.
“The recent arrests that are fellow citizens are now learning about are a stark reminder that this nation is at war with ISLAMIC FASCISTS (emphasis mine) who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom.” -President George W. Bush
Definition of a Fascist:
An advocate or adherent of fascism.
Definition of Fascism:
A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
While this may sound like your average terrorist Mr. President, you are missing a key ingredient that separates them from the pack. Religious Fanaticism. So, while I’m sure you meant to say “Islamic Fundamentalists,” I’m getting more than a little tired of my President consistently sounding like an idiot.
Now what time is the Daily Show on tonight??? This should all make for some good satire.

p.s. Whenever quoting the President I have absolutely no idea where to put a comma or ellipses. Then again, I never know when to do it period.

I hatehatehate to say this, but I think President Bush was right. According to him, we are at war with terrorism. Many of the regions of conflict around the world today (Somalia, Afghanistan, Thailand, Chechnya, Israel/Palestine, Iraq, Pakistan/India, Europe and the U.S.) are the result of conflicts between Islamic fundamentalists (which make up a *small* amount of the Muslim population).
Islamic fundamentalist terror cells operate with a government like structure, feature a tiered-leadership with one man at the apex of the pyramid giving orders, with social and economic rules dictated by Shari’ah law, utilizing terror to achieve their will against their own population as well as against other nations, censorship is rampant, and *extreme* nationalism and racism.
That completely parallels the definition of “fascism.” I was watching Brian Williams (*happy sigh*) last night, and he said that President Bush and his advisors had chosen to make an even stronger distinction by changing his usual word choice from “fundamentalism,” to “fascism.” Now, whether he should have said it publicly, that’s a tough call…

Lennea, I see what you are saying here but I guess I feel like the President was using “fascism” as a catch phrase if only because the word instills fear into people. I agree that countries like Iran do fit the above definition of fascism, but to the extent to which these terrorists (the ones in London) are agents of Iran, I don’t know.
To say that every Islamic Fundamentalist Terrorist is a fascist is incorrect, if no other reason than fascism is something that can be done by a state. Whether or not the terrorists are state-funded is a question for people much smarter than I. However, I think Bush was just using it to instill more FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) into the general populace who was watching CNN, CNBC and FOX (ugh) to find out what was going on in London.
As I a guy who pays attention to PR and marketing it just kind of feels like a PR move…and a scary one at that.
