My voting sticker sucked.

November 10th, 2006 | Filed under Blog, Lawrence, Politics

I realize I’m a couple days late in writing up my thoughts on the midterms, but it has been a hellacious week at work and time for journaling my experiences has been at a bit of a premium.

For starters, and lets be honest, I was really looking forward to the midterms. Considering I was so wrongly disenfranchised due to a voter registration snafu that in no way was my fault back in 2004, I have been chomping at the bit to exercise my right to vote as a citizen.

So when election day rolled around I got up early, brewed myself a pot of coffee and made the 100 yard tromp across the street to my local polling center. As a rule I’d like to live within walking distance of whatever polling center I’m assigned to, as there is nothing like taking a quick stroll on a crisp November morning to fill in some scantron sheets.

Needless to say, I was very happy by the election results, considering just about every candidate I voted for, and those that I’m not allowed to vote for won…and won big.

The rest of election day was a complete bummer as I got sick in the afternoon, came home ‘n took at nap and watched CNN tell me nothing for around 5 hours….luckily the KU game come on or I would have gone insane. I understand that the news outlets don’t want to speculate on exit polls to early in the evening as a way to protect against the problems of the 2000 election….but come on….I can only listen to Anderson and Wolf repeat what their commentators said so many times.

Now, to tie in the headline of this post I’d just like to say that I have never been so let down by a sticker in all my life. When you vote in this country you are supposed to receive a sticker that clearly states “I voted.” However, here in Lawrence you are stuck with one that says “proud to be a registered voter.” Well, yes I am…but I just voted in a major mid-term election, in other words “I voted”…I registered like 3 weeks ago….you should have sent me the registered sticker then..I want an “I voted” sticker.

Anyway, I realize that I could go on and on about the ridiculousness that was television that evening but if I don’t get this post out soon it is going to get trashed as I hate hanging onto drafts of posts that never get published.

In summary, I hope everyone voted and got a better sticker than I did.

p.s. My brother is coming to town tonight and as previously mentioned we have tickets for tomorrow’s KU b-ball season opener…I can’t wait.
