Happy 2nd Blog-iversary

I completely spaced off the 2nd anniversary of the blog, which came and went on Monday. Considering that I accidentally went into work Monday, not realizing it was a paid holiday at the office, I don’t feel quite so bad for missing my blog-iversary.

Anyway, here is the first post of what has become one big conglomeration of thoughts, ideas and rants by yours truly and comments by ya’ll. Some stats on the site include 367 posts and 187 comments…not to shabby. Thanks again for making this another fun year of ranting, raving and posting.

Matt 2.0…better, stronger, faster

Lately I’ve been on a tear to educate myself about the things that I want to do. No one is going to hand me a gig doing production work so it is up to me to make it happen. My only choice is buckle down and start to improve myself and my set of skills. That means listening to podcasts, reading books…not just sitting around on forum sites and talking about equipment and how cool the latest camera is but really ponying up to the bar and educating myself about the things that I’m interested in.

I think I’ve said this here before but I’ve decided that I’m now approaching life as if it was a musical instrument. As a musician you have to practice and work on your skills before you can succeed on any level. I used to play my horn at least 20 hours a week, how much time am I spending refineing my skills at the programs I want to fluent in? Yeah, I work 40+ hours a week in apps like Final Cut Pro and Pro Tools but how much time am I spending learning new things about the programs….nowhere near 20 hours…not even close to 10. So for the past 2 weeks I’ve been spending neigh every night reading up on my craft and compiling a mile long list on new stuff and training to check out.

I’ve been doing pretty damn well on my New Years resolutions and I’d like to keep it that way….only now I’m going to really step it up a notch on learning new things.

So this is just an update, probably more as a reminder to me in 6 months about how passionate I am with the process today…hopefully is fuels everyone’s New Years fire as well.

p.s. As a side note, the girlfriend wanted to make sure I let everyone know that she made fantastic brownies tonight…really, she did. :)
