Lots of Weekend
Disclaimer: I meant to post this sooner but I got busy. Sorry.
So this was one of those weekends that started on Thursday and didn’t end until Sunday, which used to be completely do-able in college, but these days I feel completely exhausted. As I said before Teressa’s dad came to town and we had a great time taking in all of Lawrence’s lovely eateries including Milton’s, Free State, Teller’s and a whole lot of bread from Wheatfield’s. Teressa and her dad have a tradition of eating good bread, cheese and salami as a late night snack, but we ate so much that by Friday night it was the only thing that sounded good for dinner. That and a couple of bottles of Chianti. I have finally found a kind of red wine that I can drink with dinner that doesn’t completely repulse me…hurray, I’m so civilized.
Carlos, Teressa’s dad, left on Saturday morning leaving us with what we thought would be a care-free evening of sitting around the house with some netflix. Until these two called…
…sending us to the Legends Shopping Center for dinner and what ended up being free bowling at the future/retro/bar/bowling alley place. All ‘n all a great weekend and a bunch of hilarious pics from the bowling alley.
My (Podcasting) Life is Complete
All of the NPR radio shows that I love are now officially podcasting including This American Life, On the Media, Car Talk and my personal fav for daily news NPR Shuffle. Some of these feeds have been around forever but in the last couple of weeks Car Talk jumped on board and This American Life started podcasting in the last 6 months or so and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Previously, I had Radiolover set up to record both of those shows off of the Chicago Public Radio stream, but now I can just add the NPR content to the many shows I subscribe to in NetNewsWire (or iTunes) and have them fall right into iTunes.
I love that all the great programming on NPR has finally embraced podcasting, and not looking at it as competition for their great local affiliate stations. It makes me want to become a member of Kansas Public Radio even more, if for no other reason than to support my local affiliate as a means of supporting the podcasts. Maybe on my next paycheck I’ll have to sign up?
Also Mike’s recent post about reading stuff reminds me that I need to update my consuming page with all the great blogs and podcasts I’m absorbing along with the music, movies and books that update automatically. I guess it is time for some spring cleaning in the ol’ RSS reader in order to sift out the greats feeds and to post them online. I’ll be posting that stuff sooner rather than later…I hope.
Wish me luck
Wish me luck as Teressa’s dad is flying in this afternoon for her birthday!
Oh, and did I mention their nickname for me is “pinky?” I’ll let you guys guess as to why, but keep in mind their surname is Martinez and mine is Kappenman.*
*Hint, it has something to do with pigment.
