The Great Re-Shuffle

Living in Lawrence one can’t help but be acutely aware of what Teressa and I call “the great re-shuffle.” Allow me to explain. 99.999 percent of apartment leases in Lawrence operate on a 12 month basis. So most everyone’s lease begins on August first (or shortly there after) and ends no later than July 31. Now some of the smarter readers are realizing that there is at least a 24 period in which no one has a home. Your lease usually ends in the afternoon on July 31 and you can’t move in to your new place until sometime on the first. So….every storage until, u-haul and best-friend’s-living-room gets filled to the brim with stuff.

Normally I participate in this huge debacle but this year I’ve been granted a reprieve. Today is the first August first in five years where I haven’t moved. I’m definitely enjoying the lack of moving couches upstairs and trying to salvage crappy particle board furniture that is falling to pieces.

Now my brother is moving to Lawrence this weekend which means I will in fact get my fill of lifting couches and wiring up home networks…but at least it won’t be at my house. I can always walk away and go home. ;)

The afternoon push to get everything done before the 3-day weekend is in full effect. *Hopefully* no one adds to my todo list at this point. 18 hrs ago
