So a couple weeks back some tech support guy told Teressa’s aunt that the only way to get a non-cable company sanctioned DVR was to order an 800 dollar one from Canada. Apparently he hadn’t heard of Tivo. Also he said VCRs do not work anymore. (Sigh) These types of lies drive me up the wall.

It is a little known fact (because they don’t want anyone to know) that cable providers like Time Warner and Sunflower are required to support cable cards. They will even tell you over the phone that they don’t (if this happens let me know and I will get you the documentation that states the requirement). A cable card will allow you to pick up a standard, Series 2 or 3 Tivo and use it as your DVR. You can currently pick up a standard HD Tivo at best buy for $299. The lack of understanding that not only cable provider employees have but also the general public as a whole is absolutely rediculous. Don’t get me started on the 2009 digital switchover.

What you mean my TV isn’t going to explode come 2009? The guy at Best Buy told me it would.
