Heading to SF for Nuke Class
March 17th, 2009 | Filed under Life, Travel
So, it’s been announced so I can talk a bit more about the upcoming San Francisco trip. I’ll be heading to the Pixel Corps offices to help TA Steve Wright’s upcoming Nuke Compositing class! I’ve been an admirer of Steve’s training for years including his books and lynda.com Shake training, and I’m very excited to get the chance to work and learn from him and the entire Pixel Corps SF crew.
I’ll be in SF from April 9th through the 14, both checking out the city and helping out with the class, so if anyone has any tips or tricks for navigating the bay area they will be greatly appreciated.

So do you want any dining/drinking recommendations?
I’ll assume “yes” :-)
Drinking:
- Magnolias Brewpub, in the Haight district: not to be missed!
- Thirsty Bear, in the Financial District, also not to be missed….possibly the only brepub in the world that has Spanish Tapas as its cuisine!
- Rogue Taproom, in North Beach, not a brewpub per se, but has a huge huge selection of all the Rogue ales on tap
- Monk’s Kettle, an awesome little restaurant in the Mission District, a very interesting selection of beers from around the world
Stuff to do:
If you’ve never been to SF, you probably have to do some of the tourist crap, but still…here are some better ideas to spend time
- Segway tour of the Wharf area…semi-touristy, but you get to drive a segway for an hour around SF, how cool is that?
- Haight Street….take a few hours and wander up Haight street….(good to combine with a trip to Magnolias, see above!) — lots of cool shops and such, including Amoeba, which is the best music store in the world.
Ferry Building — massive gourmet food mall with dozens of stalls. Check out the farmers market on a weekend morning if you are around
I could go on, but you get the idea :-)

Thank you sir!!!!! Last time I was in SF we did the Warf and Haight Street, but the Ferry Building sounds great. You know I love farmers market!
Oh, and the alcohol recommendations are always appreciated. I’ll be around Market & Fourth (near moscone actually) most of the weekend, so I’ll definitely have to run down to the Thirsty Bear. ;)
