Teressa was enamored with all of the pretty paper in the store, while I was immediately drawn to the robots. This is a reoccurring theme in our relationship. It also kicked in the way-back-machine.

In college Matt, Dan, Grady and I would get together and spend many an afternoon rocking out in our basement. One standard was a song by Matt and Dan entitled “When Robots Fall in Love.” We were so ahead of our time. By the way the song had a great hook…trust me. I wonder if we have a recording of that somewhere? Hmmm.

I know I haven’t posted in forever, but the day job and life in general has been a bit hectic. We made it back to Hutch last weekend to attend a lovely wedding (congrats Adam and Amanda) as well as deliver the truck back to my folks and haul a car load up to Lawrence for my brother Steve. Not to bad for one weekend.

Anyway, the real purpose of this post is to point out that KU is taking UNL’s lead in not forwarding pre-litigation letters to students or releasing the names of students to the RIAA. Now I’m not condoning piracy, but I’m glad that KU is taking a stand against the record labels. Should the letters probably be forwarded? Yes, as it is the RIAA legal right to sue people for stealing their content. However, there is nothing I like to see more than the ol’ Alma Mater standing up and protecting the privacy of students. Here’s to giving it the ol’ College Try.

Also, here is the article from the University Daily Kansan.

I was boppin’ around the interwebs in prep for the big game tonight and I came across the player introduction video from Allen Fieldhouse this year. If you didn’t make it to a game this season (we did early on) then I suggest you give the video a look ’cause it gives me chills every time.

Being that our first coach was a guy named Naismith, who invented basketball, KU fans are very passionate about their b-ball history. Needless to say this video pulls no punches in making fans nostalgic and excited to see their team crush opponents.

As most of you know I’m not a big sports guy, I’ll see a couple MLB games and watch soccer on TV, but I’m extremely passionate about my Jayhawks. I haven’t been this in love with a team since my sophomore year…and we made it to the championship back then. This year…well, let’s just say I don’t want to jinx it. :)

Update: We won. By a lot.

Update 2: We beat Kentucky too. Sweet Sixteen here we come.

While it may not be the most exciting game on the schedule this season, my brother, the gf and I have tickets to the Northern Arizona game next weekend. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t pumped up for the start of KU basketball this week and having tickets to a home game is just the icing on the cake. The fact that my brother is going to be in town for the game makes for the possibility of it being the best weekend ever!

Also, it is his trasfer day…where he comes to campus and learns about transfering to KU next fall and I’m his guest…which means a free meal and an excuse to walk around campus and tell everyone I’m an alumnus. Maybe I should stop by and actually pick up my diploma while I’m at it?

Now, I only get excited for three sporting events; Twins baseball, soccer and KU b-ball. So…Beware the Phog.

Facebook has added a new notes (blog) feature that allows you to write up blog posts that are attached to your facebook profile front page.

You can also import your existing blog (via RSS) into the notes section and have it auto update when you update your real blog. I’d normally prefer people come to my actual website or RSS feed as it is a much richer experience than facebook’s minimalist style, (which I usually like) it does make it easier for the people I know to read my stuff. Also, you can tag posts with your friends name and then have that cross-reference your friends facebook profiles…much like it currently works with photos. I think this is a great idea for facebook to allow for a more general sort of self-publishing, but calling it “notes” seems kind of lame. Why not call it a weblog…that is what it is. I would also like the implementation of RSS feeds so as to keep up with even more of my friends ramblings, but I suppose this is a good first step.

Normally, I’m not all that cool with someone else republishing my content, but this could open my weblog up to a whole new group of friends on facebook. If not and I decide I don’t like it, I can always delete it. :)

Anyway, let me know what everyone is thinking about this…especially people who have blogs and are considering the service as well as people who are blog-less.

No matter how free something is students are smart enough to know the real winner.

“People still want to have a music collection. Music listeners like owning their music, not renting,” says Bill Goodwin, 21, who graduated in May from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. USC decided last year that it was finished with Napster after fewer than 500 students signed up, and it moved to Ruckus, hoping students would find that service more appealing. -WSJonline (emphasis mine)

Back when I was the Apple Rep at KU we tried time and time again to meet with the Student Senate in regards to making iTunes to the defacto standard* on campus but they kept pushing Napster. Luckily nothing ever came of it, but I think it is obvious which one is the victor.

*Apple offers an “iTunes U” Campus Program that provides the College or University with a percentage of the music sales by students.

Please, correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t we all vaccinated against the mumps as kids? So why in the world is it making its way through KU?

Most of the cases are in people between ages 19 and 26, she said. Seven of the first 11 cases were in Kansas University students, but Tirol-Goodwin didn’t have the breakdown for the latest cases. Mumps is a viral infection of the salivary glands that is passed through saliva and causes swelling in the jaw, as well as headaches and fever. -LJWorld

This sounds like the best reason I’ve ever heard to stay away from the Ranch or Brothers for the next couple of weeks. :)

Update: KU is taking this recent outbreak pretty seriously as they have issued a campus wide alert via email, (teressa got a copy of it) warning of the symptoms inherent in mumps and explaining how it is transmitted. This is all very weird, and leaves me checking my lymph nodes every 30 seconds or so.
